Best Pyrometallurgy Student Oral Presentation

About the award

The Pyrometallurgy section of MetSoc is encouraging students to participate in their symposium by granting a prize for the Best Student Oral Presentation taking place at the annual Conference of Metallurgists (COM). Students who submit an abstract for the Pyrometallurgy Symposium at COM are automatically included in this competition for their chance to win a prize of $500 CAD and a certificate.

Each Student will be required to pre-record their presentation and each oral presentation will be evaluated by the pyrometallurgy award committee. The winner will be announced at the pyrometallurgy symposium and through our website and enews announcements to the entire membership.

Eligibility

Students must be enrolled in a relevant University program (undergraduate or graduate levels). 

Student abstracts accepted for oral presentation must be presented in person at the Conference of Metallurgists.

· Students will be required to pre-record their powerpoint presentation (instructions will be provided) by June 15

· Students will be evaluated on:

· Relevance to the pyrometallurgy field

· Quality of presentation in terms of content, organization, slides, etc.

· We are looking for the presentation to clearly describe the problem and state the objective of the project/research, the experiments and/or modeling conducted to achieve the objective, the findings from the research and detailed conclusion/further work required

· Oral presentation skills will also be assessed

Policies

· The Section will appoint only one prize per year.

· The section reserves the right to not hold a Best Student Oral Presentation award in any given year.

· The section reserves the right to not award this prize should the presentations not meet standards.

· General student funding is available from MetSoc by application before June 1 on the COM website.
